llms.txt for a local business
A short text file at the root of your website that summarises your business for AI tools. It takes ten minutes to write.
What it is
llms.txt is a proposal from 2024 (see llmstxt.org): a Markdown file at yourdomain.in/llms.txt with your name, a one-line summary, and the key facts and links, with no page layout to dig through.
An honest note first
It is a proposal, not a standard. As far as we know, no major AI company has committed to using it, so we cannot promise it changes what ChatGPT or Gemini say. It costs nothing, it is harmless, and some tools and AI agents do read it. Treat it as a cheap extra, never as the main fix.
An example for a clinic

> Dental clinic in Andheri West, Mumbai. Gentle, modern dentistry with honest prices.

Rules that keep it useful
- Only facts that are also on your website. Never put something here that your page contradicts.
- Real prices and real hours. Update the file when they change.
- Keep it short: one screen. Links for everything else.
Every site we build at Sites gets an llms.txt written from the same data as the page, so the two cannot drift apart.

Where does the file go?
At the top level of your site, so that yourdomain.in/llms.txt opens it. It must be plain text, not a web page.
Is llms.txt the same as robots.txt?
No. robots.txt tells crawlers where they may go. llms.txt describes what your business is. You can have both.
